Acne photographs are easy to look at and hard to read. Two cases that look similar at a glance can be different presentations entirely, needing different wavelengths and different conversations at consultation.
So before the after, look at the before. Inflammatory papules, comedonal acne, congestion, the flat red or brown marks left once lesions have settled, and textural scarring can all look like “acne” in a photograph, but they may require very different treatment approaches.
How To Read These Results
These are individual outcomes, not averages. Response to laser acne therapy varies with the type of lesion present, sebaceous activity, skin type and whether the patient is also using topical treatments or prescribed medication. Comedonal acne behaves differently from inflammatory acne, and neither behaves like the post-inflammatory marking left behind.
The photographs are most useful as a reference point, showing the baseline lesion density, how long the change took and how many treatment sessions were required. That is the part clinics tell us is missing from most manufacturer galleries. Images are unretouched and reproduced with patient consent. Lighting, distance and angle were standardised between baseline and follow-up.
Where Acne Scarring Fits
The cases above address active acne. Atrophic scarring that remains after acne has settled is a separate indication with a different treatment pathway, often involving fractional ablative resurfacing with Cool Laser by DermaBlate® rather than diode. Clinics running an acne service usually end up needing both, and the sequencing matters. See scar reduction and pigmentation removal for treatment options addressing post-acne concerns.
