Before & After Laser Hair Removal

Face, Underarm and Back Results From the MeDioStar®

MedioStar

The four cases below were treated using a MeDioStar® diode platform and supplied by the treating clinicians. They cover the face, underarm and full back, representing some of the different hair types clinics encounter day to day. That ranges from fine facial hair at one end to coarse terminal hair at the other.

Why Session Counts Vary So Widely

Laser energy is absorbed by melanin in the hair, with treatment being most effective when follicles are in the active growth, or anagen, phase. Only a proportion of the hairs in a treatment area will be in this phase at any one time, and the proportion varies by body site.

This is one of the main reasons laser hair removal requires a course of treatments rather than a single session. Treatment intervals also vary according to the area being treated.

Several factors can increase or reduce the number of sessions required. Coarse, dark hair generally absorbs laser energy more effectively than fine or light hair. Growth cycles also differ by body site, with facial hair behaving differently from areas such as the back or legs. Hormonal factors can influence results too, particularly where facial hair growth is being maintained by an underlying cause that laser treatment itself does not address.

Reduction, Not Removal

The accepted term for what laser achieves is permanent hair reduction. This means a lasting decrease in the number of hairs that regrow after a course of treatment, rather than permanent removal. Some follicles may survive treatment, and some patients require occasional maintenance sessions.

That distinction matters when advertising laser hair removal. Claims of permanent removal can create a substantiation issue under the CAP Code while setting an expectation the treatment is not designed to meet. The outcomes on this page show the end-of-course results achieved by these individuals, not a guaranteed result for every patient.

Laser Hair Removal Before & After FAQs

Session counts are listed under each case. They range across the set because the face, underarm and back have different growth cycles and different hair characteristics, which is exactly why we have shown four areas rather than one.
Follow-up intervals are stated for each case. Images taken after the final treatment allow time for the normal shedding process to pass, giving a clearer indication of the hair reduction achieved rather than simply showing the immediate post-treatment result.
Diode laser systems can be used across a wide range of Fitzpatrick skin types with appropriate practitioner-led parameter selection, although settings differ substantially between skin types. Ask our team about case material relevant to the skin types your clinic treats.

No. Laser targets melanin in the hair, so blonde, grey and very fine hair generally respond less predictably than the coarse, dark hair shown in the underarm and back cases. Hair colour and calibre should therefore be assessed and discussed during consultation.

Each case is credited to the treating clinician. They were supplied to Asclepion by the clinics concerned and are published with their permission and their patients’ consent.
